“Cold Spring Hills’ owners put profits over patient care and left vulnerable New Yorkers to live in heartbreaking and inhumane conditions,” James said in a statement. The state wants to prohibit the facility from admitting new residents until staffing levels meet appropriate standards and require Cold Spring Hills to pay for a financial and independent health care monitor to oversee operations. “Cold Spring Hills’ owners put profits over patient care and left vulnerable New Yorkers to live in heartbreaking and inhumane conditions,” saidJames.

There are so many rumors about it being a filthy place that people go to to essentially die. My mom's social worker at the Saint Elizabeth hospital in kentucky would have it no other way. She'd never sent anyone anywhere else, despite my pleas to get her to the Drake in Cincinnati. They assured both me and mom that she would only be in the nursing home for a week, nine days tops. Nine days turned into a month and a half, during which my mom developed a urinary tract infection.

Skilled Nursing Homes Quality Trends
They have been taking care of my mother for the past two years and the care that she has received is beyond what I could imagine. They make her feel like she is part of the family and my mother loves interacting with the staff and the other residents that are around her. Sometimes you hear some horror stories from nursing homes, but every time I come to visit I have had a great experience. I would certainly recommend their care to anyone who is looking for their loved one to be treated with dignity. For example, a resident at a skilled nursing home may only meet with the appropriate healthcare professional three times a week for an hour or so at a time while rehabilitation services are typically daily for up to three hours a day . A person will sometimes move from rehab to a skilled nursing community once they no longer require the more intensive acute care but are still not ready to return home.
These lawsuits are a direct result of OAG’s nursing home investigations, which are ongoing. Attorney General James has been investigating nursing homes throughout New York based on concerns of patient neglect and other conduct that may have jeopardized the health and safety of residents and employees, both before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. These lawsuits are a direct result of OAG’s nursing home investigations, some of which are still ongoing. Three years ago I had to move both my parents to a skilled nursing care facility due to their failing health. When I walked into Buckingham, I was given the reassurance I needed to make a decision. The administration addresses my questions and concerns, the staff is pleasant and truly caring, and although some may agree the decor is dated, the facility is clean.
Long Island nursing home sued for alleged neglect, inhumane treatment
CBS2's Jennifer Bisram spoke with a woman who says her mother's life was forever changed after staying there. During the first few months of the pandemic, from March to June of 2020 when nursing home staffing across the country was stretched beyond thin, 166 Cold Spring Hills residents died, 98 of which were from COVID. The facility failed to report 51 of those deaths to the state's DOH, the lawsuit stated, a fraudulent underreporting by more than 50 percent. Letitia James is taking legal action against Cold Spring Hills Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, claiming there was financial fraud and rampant resident neglect in part due to severe understaffing. The respondents also funneled another $10.6 million in concealed self-dealing transactions through what were ostensibly insurance companies, and another $8.1 million through an entity that purportedly provided services and supplies to Cold Spring Hills. In total, the respondents transferred over $42.4 million to its owners and related parties from 2016 to 2021.
Patients can receive their daily skilled therapies as well as medication management and social therapy. The attorney general alleges Bent Philipson used Cold Spring Hills to provide extravagant salaries, bonuses and luxury cars for himself and others. Cold Spring Hills declined to comment on the allegations put forth in the attorney general's lawsuit. Biederman's mom is still alive today and is now being treated at a different nursing home, but Biederman knows the sad reality. One of the previous lawsuits targeted Fulton Commons Nursing Home in East Meadows, N.Y. The owner, Moshe Kalter, did not respond to a request for comment.
An investigation by the Office of the Attorney General found that Cold Spring Hills’ owners diverted over $22.6 million in Medicaid and Medicare funds from resident care through a fraudulent network of companies that were used to conceal up-front profit taking. The lawsuit alleges that long before the COVID-19 pandemic, the owners repeatedly cut staffing at the 588-bed facility, which created poor working conditions and endangered residents. Through her lawsuit, Attorney General James seeks to prevent new residents from entering the facility, install monitors to oversee the facility’s operations and finances, and ban existing and hidden owners from their roles.

The operators of Cold Spring Hills used 13 companies to create the appearance that they were paying for services for the nursing home but were in fact diverting Medicaid and Medicare funds to themselves as up-front profit instead of using the funds for resident care. This complex network of companies was also used to hide the real owners of the nursing home and to orchestrate multiple deceptive schemes to extract funds for their personal financial benefit, while disregarding the nursing home’s duty to provide required care. The allegations also include staffing cuts, poor conditions including dirty rooms, inadequate care and financial fraud totaling $22.6 million, money that the state claims owners diverted for themselves from Medicaid and Medicare funds. "Cold Spring Hills' owners put profits over patient care and left vulnerable New Yorkers to live in heartbreaking and inhumane conditions," James said. "From Buffalo to Long Island, every nursing home in New York must abide by laws that require the best care for New Yorkers." I simply HAD to write a review for Buckingham Pavilion and am happy to finally get around to it.
